Foundation Waterproofing for New Construction High Rise in Toronto
SCope of Work
TRUGRP was the prime sub-contractor for all waterproofing and roofing components on a landmark mixed-use condominium development along Toronto’s waterfront. The project features three residential towers above four levels of underground parking with retail at grade, occupying an entire city block. Its waterfront location presented complex hydrostatic conditions, requiring extensive dewatering, foundation waterproofing, and highly coordinated sequencing with the construction team.
The Process
TRUGRP completed installation of the blindside waterproofing system, using Tremco’s state-of-the-art Amphibia membrane—the first application of this technology in Ontario. The system is being installed as a full “bathtub” assembly, covering all vertical and horizontal foundation areas with continuous protection.
The waterproofing scope includes installation of drainage boards, crystalline protection, and Tremco Amphibia blindside membrane across both slab and wall areas. Due to excavation extending below the water table, concrete mud slabs and reinforced protection slabs were integrated to resist hydraulic loads. Vertical waterproofing was completed floor-by-floor as the structure rose, requiring precise detailing and daily protection measures to ensure long-term performance.
This project demonstrates TRUGRP’s technical expertise in managing large-scale, high-complexity foundation waterproofing systems under challenging site conditions, while introducing advanced waterproofing technologies to the Ontario market.
